Filming and Photography
This section covers rates and other information for applying to film and take photographs in the market, individual stalls as well the streets around Borough Market.
I would like to film in the market, what should I do?
Please complete a Film and Photographic application form, which is available here. Alternatively email filming@boroughmarket.org.uk, and we will send you the application form which should be returned to the same mailbox. If permission is then granted, we will require a filming contract be put in place. Please note that our security team have the authority to remove anyone found filming without Borough Market’s consent, as Borough Market is private property.
Is there a charge for filming or photography for media purposes?
Yes, please note there is a charge, and payment should be received by Borough Market before filming commences.
I am a student wishing to film/take photographs of the market for my coursework. Do I need to complete an application form or pay a fee?
If your coursework, and therein any photography or film, is to be published in any form in the public media you are required to complete an application form for our consideration before visiting the Market to undertake the shoot.
We permit private, non-commercial photography and film taken for personal use only. In such instances the photographer is responsible for securing the permission of any individuals or businesses appearing in photographs. Borough Market reserves the right to stop photography at any time in the event of disturbance or interference with normal market activities.
No such film or photographs may be published in electronic or hard copy in any media without the prior written authorisation of Borough Market and the taker shall not sell or derive any financial benefit from the taking or use of such film or photographs. Any persons filming or taking photographs in accordance with this policy must acknowledge that Borough Market is a trademark registered in both the UK and European Community and that any unauthorized use of the phrase Borough Market will constitute an infringement of this trademark.
I would like to film/photograph particular stalls. Do I need to seek permission from the specific traders?
Yes. The best way to do this is to attend the Market, ideally on the same day of the week as you wish to film, and speak to the Trader(s) in person. At the same time you will see how the Market is laid out on that day of the week and be able to work out the best location(s) for filming. These details will later be included in your filming contract.
I would like to film on the streets around Borough Market. Is there anyone else I need to contact?
Yes. To apply for permission to film in the roads in the area, or if your filming may cause an obstruction to traffic, please contact Southwark Council Filming Office, or telephone 0845 833 1523.
