Gujarati Rasoi represents the best of British Indian food today. Working to recipes that have been passed down in rural India over many generations, Urvesh Parvais and his mother Lalita use only fresh ingredients and whole spices to create superior quality cooking sauces, chutneys and chai spices imbued with the genuine taste of traditional home cooking. Lalita knows the recipes off by heart, and understands her toolbox of flavours the way an artist would their colours.
Their flair and passion for the food of their forbears comes alive in the range of Gujarati street fare and curries served from the stall. The menu takes in some familiar favourites – samosas and samosa chaat, mango lassi, bhajis served with sev momra, yoghurt, raita, date and tamarind sauce – and as for their vegetarian thali? It's simply a taste of home for the talented mother and son.
